About Rob Morrison
Husband, father of five, RCMP officer, diplomat, federal Director General — and now Member of Parliament for the Kootenays. A lifetime of service to Canada.
A Lifetime of Service
Rob Morrison was born in Goose Bay, Newfoundland, where his father was stationed with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He grew up in Calgary, attended Mount Royal College, and began a 35-year career as a federal public servant.
Rob spent the bulk of his career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, rising to the senior executive rank of Chief Superintendent in British Columbia. His policing career took him across the province — including significant time posted in Creston, Nelson, and Cranbrook — and earned him the Commissioner's Commendation for Outstanding Service.
After leaving the RCMP, Rob served as a Canadian diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs. Posted to Islamabad, Pakistan, he was responsible for engagement across 17 countries in Central/Southwest Asia and the Middle East, working directly with senior foreign government officials and travelling extensively in Afghanistan and the region.
Returning home, Rob briefly ran a security consulting company before being appointed Director General with the Treasury Board Secretariat — responsible for an information-sharing environment connecting all federal law enforcement agencies and foreign government partners. He retired from that role in 2013, and received recognition from Prime Minister Stephen Harper for his loyal public service.
In 2019, Rob was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kootenay–Columbia, and was re-elected in 2021 and again in April 2025 in the new Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies riding with 50.45% of the vote — his strongest mandate yet. Rob and his wife Heather have five children and call the Kootenays home.
